If you’re looking for a so simple homemade bread recipe, this is it! You’ll just need a handful of ingredients and a bit of patience while you’re waiting to eat it!
- 2.5 C. warm water
- 1 T. yeast {I just use the small packets!}
- 1/4 C. sugar
- 1 T. salt
- 1/4 C. vegetable oil
- 5-6 C. flour {I just used white!]
Mix the water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Stir well and let sit for approximately 5 minutes. It will look cloudy and a little gross {if we’re being honest…}
Add the salt and vegetable oil. Mix. Add the flour cup by cup, stirring well between each one. The dough will start to form into a ball. You don’t want the dough to be too sticky or too wet.
Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it sit for about 2 hours. The dough will rise and look like a big mound of gooey deliciousness.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Separate your dough into two greased bread pans. I could only track down one bread pan {maybe we still have an unpacked box somewhere??}, so I used a small glass baking dish and separated the second half of the dough into 5 rolls.
Bake at 375 for approximately 25 minutes. You’ll know it’s done with the top becomes a delightful golden brown color. Yum!
Rub with butter, let sit for a few minutes, and ENJOY! Keep covered with a cloth – you don’t want your yummy bread to get dry and hard!
